Bell's Palsy

~Bell's= refer to Sir Charles Bell.
19th-century scottish anatomist who gave the first scientific description of the condition.
~Palsy= another term for paralysis.
~another name for Bell's Palsy is facial paralysis.
~affect one side of the face.
~the mouth droops, an eye on the affected side won't close.
~the disfigurement usually temporary.
~inflammation of the nerve that controls the facial muscle ( the seventh cranial nerve )
~prime suspect is infection with the herpes simplex type 1 virus(the same virus causes cold sores)
~another possible causes - Lyme disease.
~early treatment ( within 3 days of symptoms appearing ) with a steroida anti-inflammatory pill like prednisone increase the chances of a full recovery.
